Senior Project 5-21-19

Today for senior project we headed to the Merrimack County Jail for the last time. We got supplies yesterday and we were going to spray down the final lines. When we headed to the fitness space our posters were taken down and the track lines we made were gone. From there we sprayed down the three point line which was quite difficult. After adjusting the tape, we sprayed it down and it came out pretty well. We met with Mark after and he told us a class of inmates graduated on Friday so that may be the reason they took down the posters. Then we headed back to campus to do our sheets and we totaled about 3 hours today.

Senior Project 5-20-19

There wasn't much more work we could do for today but we did prepare for tomorrow. We planned to go to the jail on Tuesday. The 5k and 3v3 basketball tournament happened and were successful. We did go out and get supplies for the jail. We went to the same store as before and got a bottle of spray paint and masking tape. We need to spray down a few more things like the three point line and little track course we made. We did about an hour of work today.

Weekly reflection #3

During our last full week of senior project, our group got a lot of work down with at the Merrimack County jail, setting up for our 3v3 basketball tournament, and helping with the Proctor 5k. We only got to go to the jail once during this week. We communicate with Marc Marchand on what days we should be attending and helping at the jail. When we went on Tuesday we got a good amount of work done. We spray painted the free throw line and the hand ball court. We ran out of supplies but were expecting to go again on Thursday but Marc wasn't there so we didn't go. Later on during that week we had our 3v3 basketball tournament. We have been planning for it since the beginning of senior project. When the day came we had all of our supplies but needed to get a few things from Trish like a table and basketballs. Everyone came on time and the games started right at 6:00. We sold a decent amount of drinks and few snacks to everyone playing and watching. The games were very intense and man

Senior project 5-18-19 and 5-19-19

On Saturday, our group met in the training office to discuss about the Proctor 5k. We made copies of stickers that were going to be put on the racing numbers. On the sticker you could write down the time you got. It took quite awhile to take all of the stickers off and put them on the racing numbers and took us about an hour. Then race day came on Sunday and we had to wake up at 6:45. We helped set up the course and put down cones so the runners knew where to run. Also, We put out tables, water jugs, and cups for the runners. Then after the race we helped clean up the area and did all of this for two hours. We completed our 50 hours and have 50.5 hours going into the last few days of senior project.

Senior project 5-17-19

For our senior project today we helped out Kelly by setting up for the 5k. Briefly we met in the training room and took a golf cart to the woodlands office. Then we got on an ATV and we went to the turf field where the race will be starting. We got a measuring wheel from Trish and used it to measure of each mile marker. Then at each mile, Kelly used rubber gloves as a marker so we know where to put the mile sign next time. After all of this, we counted and sorted out the 5k t-shirts in piles around the training room. We did all of this for 2 hours.

Senior project 5-16-19

Today for our senior project was a big day. We went to Newport to get the 5k t-shirts and then bring them to Kelly. After returning them to Kelly, we finalized what we were doing for the basketball tournament. We finalized the brackets and the rules. We had to rush after practice to dinner, so we could set up in time to start the games. The tournament started at 6 and ended at 8. To set up, we hung up the posters of the rules and bracket. Also, we had a table for selling drinks and snacks. People were making there final payments and others were buying drinks and snacks. A lot of people came to watch all the students play. In the end, everyone had a great time and we felt we did an awesome with the tournament.

Senior project 5-15-19

Today was a very good planning day for the Proctor 5k and finalizing for our basketball tournament. We met with Kelly and discussed what we needed to do in the up and coming days. We got the signs and cones that will be put down on the race day. After that we headed to lunch to get payments from almost everyone participating in the tournament. We took a break for a bit because of our afternoon activities. We decided we were changing some of the rules and switching the format of the tournament. We decided on a 1 game elimination and time of the games. It was a very good day and we got 3 hours of work done.

Senior project 5-14-19

During today for senior project, our group went to the Merrimack County Jail again. We went out and bought a bottle of spray paint and masking tape, so could spray down the lines for the basketball hoop, hand ball court, and little track we made. We placed the masking tape on the inside and outside of the duck tape on the ground. Then lifted the duck tape off and spray down the paint to make the lines. We only had enough spray paint for the hand ball court and free throw line. After leaving the jail we went to lunch to finish up the sign ups and get payments from everyone. We then got two poster boards from the school store. One is for the bracket of the teams and the other is of the rules of the tournament. Finally, We left campus again to get waters and gatorades that we're going to sell during the tournament. Our group got lots of work done today and totaled 5.5 hours.

Senior project 5-13-19

The start of the third week of senior project was an on going and good day of work.  We met as a group and planned to go to assembly and talked about the tournament. Unfortunately students were receiving there elective awards and that took up the whole time slot. After assembly, we left to go do more planning about the tournament. We typed up the rules for the tournament and eventually will be written down on a poster board and hung up in the gym. We went to lunch and got some more sign ups and money from everyone. Then we went to Hannaford's to get some snacks that we are going to be selling during the tournament. Today went really well for our group and we got 3.5 hours of work done.

Weekly Reflection #2

The second week of senior project was very productive and the group got a lot of work done. Our work schedule was similar to last week as we went to the Merrimack County Jail twice and worked on preparing for the 3v3 basketball tournament. Trying to get sign ups was hard thing to do but as the week went on we really pushed it out to people and shared our plan for the tournament. Going to the jail was really tough because we wanted to measure and tape everything perfect for the inmates and make spray painting the lines easy for us as well. I think the work were doing will really be beneficial because were putting in a lot of work in the jail and trying to give them hope and happiness for the inmates. I think they'll really appreciate when we spray down the lines for the basketball hope and hand ball area. Also, the money we raise goes to them and we're hoping they'll stay out of trouble and not want to go back to jail. There really been any changes with our project. We'v

Senior Project 5-10-19

Today was a chill day of senior project work. We made a survey for the 3v3 basketball tournament since some days we aren't able to be at lunch. Also, many people don't go to lunch and are always on there phones and computers. We figured it would be easier to get everyones opinion on it. The survey says if the student will be attending the tournament, if they are participating, there team members, and how they will pay for it. We went to lunch but didn't get to many sign ups. We discussed and planned for Monday because we will be presenting the cause of the tournament at assembly.  We spent 2 hours working today.

Senior Project 5-9-19

Today was a very productive day for our senior project group, we did a good amount of work in the jail and for the 3v3 basketball tournament. We went to the jail to get work done in the gym as usual. We created and hung up posters on the walls for the five exercises we made up. The five exercise were push ups, sit ups, wall sits, planks, and burpees. We made the posters so the inmates could write there names down, how many reps they completed or how long there times were. Also, they took some of the tape we put down for a free throw line and made it into a hand ball court. That was definitely helpful but we will have to reline the free throw line. When we came back to campus we went to lunch and got sign ups. Once lunch ended we made new fliers for the tournament and took down the old ones. We replaced them all around campus. We did 3.5 hours of work today.

Senior Project 5-8-19

Today our main focused was toward the basketball tournament. We made filers to put up around campus to reminder everyone when the tournament is. We discussed a little about the tournament and what we can do to make it better. Then we went to lunch to get the sign ups and we got more as the word is getting around campus. Later on in the day after practice, we decided we wanted to change the date of the tournament. We changed it to Thursday May 16th. We emailed Trish and Becky about the changes made and plan on making new filers to put around campus. We completed about 4 hours on the day and were very productive today.

Senior Project 5-7-19

Today was a well spent day at the Merrimack County Jail. Last week we met and discussed with Marc Marchand what our plans are to do with the exercise space in the jail. We had a tape measure but needed tape as we got some on the way there. There is a basketball hoop in there and one exercising machine. He gave us some suggestions to do with space and we decided to tape some spots around the area. For instance, we taped down a free throw line and three point line for the basketball hoop. We measured it out and next time we go, we're spray painting down lines for it. Hand ball is a big sport the inmates like to play, so we didn't put down tape because we aren't to similar with it but we left a big space open and next time we go we will create a court for it. If the inmates have the space and time they can walk around the area as we put down small lanes in each corner so they can follow, they can either run, jog or walk. We spent three hours doing this task. It was a great day

Senior Project 5-6-19

Today for our senior project we had a lot of discussion regarding our 3v3 basketball tournament and others ways to raise money. We talked to Kelly and she gave us some really helpful suggestions. Buying snacks to sell during the tournament would help us raise the profit. Also, we discussed rules of the teams and length of the games. We did that for an hour. Then Ryan and I went to lunch to get sign ups for the tournament. We only had a few teams sign up for it but a lot of interest from people. That also took us an hour. We are still discussing ways to get sign ups from students, other than staying at lunch. I think people will begin to sign up because its doesn't cost a lot and is for a good cause. Our group just needs to keep pushing forward with sign ups and an assembly announcement will be helpful.

Weekly evaluation 1

The first week of senior project lived up to its expectations. When our group was being assembled in the fall, coming up with this project was a bit difficult. As we discussed, we figured out what we wanted to do and everything that we have planned since then has being going well. We met with Marc Marchand, who works at the county jail and discussed what we will be doing. We're putting up lines and coming up with exercises for the inmates to help them stay active and make sure they are healthy.  We learned a lot about the people in the jail and that the time they get to exercise with us, is the best part of their day. So its our goal to make sure we do are good job and keep them in good health. Also,  We had the chance to go to the Concord court house with Fiona Mills and listen in on two court cases. I've never done that before and it was an interesting thing to see how the court system works. We helped Kelly with the 5k by getting students to sign up for it. It took a lot of

Senior Project 5-3-19

Not much was done on this day of our senior project. We were expecting to present our slide show for the 3v3 basketball tournament but wasn't able to happen. So we will most likely do that on Monday and begin doing sign ups for the tournament at lunch. For the payment of the tournament, it'll either be cash or on venmo as of right now. We discussed what days we are going to be visiting the jail. The three best days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Wednesdays don't work because it's a game day and Marc doesn't work on Fridays. Not presenting the slide show was a setback but we adjusted and are looking forward to the next week.

Senior Project 5-2-19

Today was the longest day of work and learning so far. We went to the Concord Court house with Fiona Mills Honors U.S History class. We left school around 8:45 and got there at 9:30. We were fortunate enough to listen in on two cases. In the first one an Indian man wasn't a citizen of the United States but served in the military and was fighting to get his U.S citizenship. After that fascinating case, we ate some pizza together. The next case was absolutely crazy. A woman was involved in a huge fentanyl bust in Lawerence. She would received phone calls from buyers and then alert the drug dealers that buyers are coming to them. Over 400 grams of fentanyl was seized during this case. She pled guilty and is facing a minimum of 10 years in Prison. We left the prison around 1:30. We totaled about 4 and a half hours at the courthouse. This experience was really cool and we got a better background of what people may be going through and how we can keep there minds right.

Senior Project 5-1-19

Today wasn't as hectic of a day for our senior project group. We decided to get it out of the way and get measuring tools that we will use in the jail. We had to go to Concord for that and took us about an hour. Then when we got back to campus and worked on our presentation for the 3v3 basketball tournament. We're presenting it at assembly on Friday as a slide show. Also, we looked over and got a response from Marc about the supplies we need for the jail. We plan on getting it all by the end of this week and both of those plans took us about an hour. Finally, We tried to get more 5k sign ups but were unsuccessful.
