Senior Project 5-8-19

Today our main focused was toward the basketball tournament. We made filers to put up around campus to reminder everyone when the tournament is. We discussed a little about the tournament and what we can do to make it better. Then we went to lunch to get the sign ups and we got more as the word is getting around campus. Later on in the day after practice, we decided we wanted to change the date of the tournament. We changed it to Thursday May 16th. We emailed Trish and Becky about the changes made and plan on making new filers to put around campus. We completed about 4 hours on the day and were very productive today.

Senior Project 5-21-19

Today for senior project we headed to the Merrimack County Jail for the last time. We got supplies yesterday and we were going to spray down the final lines. When we headed to the fitness space our posters were taken down and the track lines we made were gone. From there we sprayed down the three point line which was quite difficult. After adjusting the tape, we sprayed it down and it came out pretty well. We met with Mark after and he told us a class of inmates graduated on Friday so that may be the reason they took down the posters. Then we headed back to campus to do our sheets and we totaled about 3 hours today.

Senior Project 5-7-19

Today was a well spent day at the Merrimack County Jail. Last week we met and discussed with Marc Marchand what our plans are to do with the exercise space in the jail. We had a tape measure but needed tape as we got some on the way there. There is a basketball hoop in there and one exercising machine. He gave us some suggestions to do with space and we decided to tape some spots around the area. For instance, we taped down a free throw line and three point line for the basketball hoop. We measured it out and next time we go, we're spray painting down lines for it. Hand ball is a big sport the inmates like to play, so we didn't put down tape because we aren't to similar with it but we left a big space open and next time we go we will create a court for it. If the inmates have the space and time they can walk around the area as we put down small lanes in each corner so they can follow, they can either run, jog or walk. We spent three hours doing this task. It was a great day...

Senior Project 5-2-19

Today was the longest day of work and learning so far. We went to the Concord Court house with Fiona Mills Honors U.S History class. We left school around 8:45 and got there at 9:30. We were fortunate enough to listen in on two cases. In the first one an Indian man wasn't a citizen of the United States but served in the military and was fighting to get his U.S citizenship. After that fascinating case, we ate some pizza together. The next case was absolutely crazy. A woman was involved in a huge fentanyl bust in Lawerence. She would received phone calls from buyers and then alert the drug dealers that buyers are coming to them. Over 400 grams of fentanyl was seized during this case. She pled guilty and is facing a minimum of 10 years in Prison. We left the prison around 1:30. We totaled about 4 and a half hours at the courthouse. This experience was really cool and we got a better background of what people may be going through and how we can keep there minds right.
